Morning Reflection – Happy are those who walk in His ways

Psalm 128:1-2

1 Blessed is every one who fears the LORD, Who walks in His ways.
2 When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.

A man once confided his fears that he was living under a family curse. “What can I do to break the curse?” he asked.

It’s simple. Read the passage above and do it.

When an enemy of God’s people tried to hire a prophet to curse the people, the enemy offered riches to Balaam. The prophet said, “Though you offer me a house full of silver and gold, I cannot curse whom God blessed. The Lord has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.”

From the very beginning the Lord revealed the blessings and the curse. Those who turn from God’s counsel are walking in the curse. Those who walk in God’s ways are blessed, and no power on heaven, hell, or on the earth can reverse it. When God blesses, it cannot be reversed by anyone but God Himself.

Regardless of what your father or forefathers have done, the blessing is upon all who walk in God’s ways. Regardless of what you have done, God promises to bless you if you walk in His ways. Jesus made it clear that the one the Son sets free is free indeed. Not partially free, but free indeed. Every curse is broken in Christ. Or as Colossians puts it, “Christ has taken the list of requirements against us and removed it from us by nailing it to the cross.”

All the requirements against us have been taken out of the way. That includes sin, the curse of sin, guilt to sin, regrets of the past, or anything else we think may haunt us. Any who are new creations in Christ have had the old requirements done away with. That’s the purpose of the new life. The Bible says that we are buried with Christ in baptism that the body of sin might be done away with, and that we now rise up in newness of life. No curse. No debt. No old requirements.

Our current choices indeed have consequences, for if we submit ourselves back into bondage to sin, we are subjecting ourselves back under its dominion. Yet because we are crucified with Christ, the old sinful nature no longer has dominion over us and we are freed from it. We must learn to walk in faith. We must think like a new creation and walk in newness of life.

When we walk according to the new creation we have become, we then have the promise of God’s blessings. The curse need not cross our minds. We don’t need to do anything to break the curse – it was part of the old life. The new life is a new creation, born of God and is in the Spirit. God does not create a new life with a curse. The curse is gone if you are a child of God. Yet many blessings remain undiscovered because most believers stop at seeking forgiveness, and never seek fellowship with God.

Our relationship with God is the blessing. When we walk in God’s ways we are walking in the blessing and will experience all that God has in store for us. Then you shall be happy and it will be well with you. Experience intimacy with God. If you have eternal life, you are a partaker of God’s nature (2 Peter 1:4). If you are abiding in Him, it’s impossible not to be blessed.
